A controversial subject in Israeli Legislature and a battle that has been ongoing for some time, two cannabis-related bills were advanced by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation.
The first bill calls for decriminalization of cannabis while the second calls for its legalization for adults 21 years of age or older. The bills are currently in committee, awaiting further legislative amendments before being re-examined for debate at the Knesset.
Upon final approval and enforcement as law, these bills will pave the path for the commercialization of medical and recreational use of cannabis across the country.
However, considering the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and lengthy approval processes, the finalization of the bills may be extended into the next year or farther.
